Blood Transfusion #192

Attention all fellow human beings...
there is a shortage of blood on the shelves for patients
like Mia who REQUIRE it to live.
PLEASE help donate blood if you are able to.
She is literally holding her life in her hands every time
you take the time to simply donate.
If you are blood type: 0 - we need you!

We loved visiting with the future Dr. Chris Beann
when he was doing rotations at Cardon Children’s!!

Remember to donate blood!

#190

If you’ve taken the time to donate blood I could honestly never thank you enough. Mia wouldn’t be here without you and I’m blessed to watch Mia simply live her life and experience all the things that life has to offer. We’ve recently had a bump in the road with Mia’s health, specifically her iron counts. If you didn’t know, the blood transfusions that SAVE her life every 3 weeks (just had #190 today!) overloads her heart & liver with iron which is deadly. How ‘IRONic’ that the blood which helps her stay alive slowly builds up the iron on her organs, they call it a silent killer. Unfortunately since last year her iron counts have doubled. That’s bad. So if you are able to pray for Miss Mia that would be so appreciated! (Mia needs to stay on top of taking that medicine too.) We’ll see what her levels are at her next MRI probably this winter. Mia you are the bravest girl ever, I know I’ll never be as strong as you are. God gives His hardest battles to His strongest soldiers! #donateblood @miasmarrow

Good Friday - #188

It’s Good Friday today, and we can’t help but think of how symbolic it is to be receiving a life saving blood transfusion today, on Good Friday. Jesus donated His blood for us on the cross 2,000 years ago...’by his wounds, you are healed.’ 1 Peter 2:24 *Extra thankful for the gift of life given to Mia by people who take the time to donate blood and to celebrate an Easter weekend filled with faith, family, and friends! “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13 πŸ™πŸΌ

Two life saving blood transfusions in March = 4 units of donated blood (can’t be bought in a pharmacy) = living life during spring break = continuing to be able to go to school with friends = Gift of Life for another 3 weeks = Priceless! Which is why, *IF you are able to donate blood, you should! You truly save a life that would otherwise not be alive, like Mia’s, EVERY single time you take the time to donate blood. Thankful beyond words for blood donors ❣️

I wonder who donated their blood so I can live?

Bone Marrow Biopsy

Mia had a bone marrow aspiration this morning. She did great and was smiling when she woke up from the anesthesia. What a trooper! - A Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration can show whether your bone marrow is healthy and making normal amounts of blood cells. (In DBA there’s no red cells being made.) Doctors use these procedures to diagnose and monitor blood and marrow diseases, including some cancers. - In Mia’s case with DBA, it’s recommended to get that procedure done every year in a half - two years. It was super fast she’s just a little sore where they poked her with a big needle on the back of her hip. A yummy brunch helped her to feel better!!

Blood Drive @ Santan Jr. High

Hi everyone, it’s Mia here! Today I got the opportunity to visit a blood drive held in my name at my old junior high school. The reason this meant so much to me is that these faces I was able to see today were sharing life.
I love shopping and hanging out with friends, family, and my dogs. I feel thankful each time I receive a blood transfusion and get to renew the opportunity to do these things for one month more.
There are many others that are blessed by blood donations in the same way, and I sincerely say thank you to everyone who takes a morning, afternoon, lunch break, etc., out of their day to extend the lives of others like me!

Transfusion #185

Thankfully looking forward to another 3 weeks of life! { Because of generous blood donors } some small victories todayincluded - the IV poke was super easy and I didn’t need a warmer on my arm, I didn’t take a benedryl nap even though I had benedryl, and we watched high school musical on a DVD player for old times sake! Also ... I received 2 units of A- blood...which is pretty rare but awesome! Feeling thankful - Mia ❣️ #DonateBlood #GiveBlood #DonateLife #HospitalLife #GiftofLife #GodisGood #prayers #chronicillness  #invisibleillness #DonateMarrow #BeTheMatch #bannerhealth #Kindness #Transfusion #Anemia #NeedaCure #CureDBA #Hope #Happy #beablooddonor #AlwaysSmiling #Pray4Mia #sweetgirl #SherriHill #ChronicallyFabulous #Match4Mia #MiasMarrow #MesaAZ #AZ #nevergiveup

Remembering Kwamie Lassiter

We have NO words for the sudden loss of @kwamie_lassiter42 @thekwamielassiterfoundation πŸ’” our hearts are broken for his family ... he was the best supporter of @bethematch as his son underwent a bone marrow transplant at PCH, and Kwamie was always helping others in the community and raising awareness for sickle cell anemia. He will be dearly missed. Praying for you Lassiter Family πŸ™πŸΌ #neverforgotten #weloveyou #kwamielassiterfoundation #GodBless
